Reference school for ballet training in Sarzana

4Movimento represents a reference school for the professional training of dancers, which, thanks to its long history and attention to innovations in dance disciplines, is able to guarantee a high-level path to its students.

The birth of the dance school

The story of 4Movimento, now a reference school for the professional training of dancers in Sarzana, began in 1989 when Mr. Bryan Poer left the town to return to Milan. To fill this void, his students Giuseppe Gilardi and Lucia Boschi decided to create their own school, receiving a space within the Multipurpose Centre located in the former Fruit and Vegetable Market. Once the restoration works were completed, the project was able to come to life, becoming the reference point for the future dancers of the province of La Spezia that we know today.

Reference point for future dancers

The inauguration of 4Movimento took place in Sarzana on 1st October 1990, in the presence of the then-mayor Lorenzo Forceri and the Culture Councillor Professor Mario Grassi, and with the participation of many dancers; all within the beautiful setting provided by the exhibition of photographer Fabio Gianardi, dedicated to Pina Bausch.

Today, 4Movimento is a reference school for the professional training of classical and contemporary dancers, offering them:

  • Workshops with international teachers
  • Performances (50 in total)
  • Competitions
  • Exhibitions
  • Guided trips to enjoy important performances in major Italian theatres

In this way, the centre has been able to achieve many positive results: many former students have been admitted to major professional schools such as:

  • Kholn Academy (Cologne)
  • Liceo Coreutico di Torino
  • Ballet School of Teatro alla Scala (Milan)
  • École Supérièure Nationale de Marseille (Marseille)
  • École Supérièure de Danse de Rosella Hightower (Cannes)
  • Rudra Bejart Lausanne (Lausanne)
  • Codarts (Rotterdam)
  • John Cranko School (Stuttgart)
  • Accademia Nazionale di Danza (Rome)
