Dynamic Yoga: a deep and transformative discipline
The 4Movimento school in Sarzana offers Dynamic Yoga classes inspired by the tradition of Ashtanga Yoga – a vigorous and structured form of yoga developed in the early 20th century in Mysore, South India, through the teachings of Master Krishnamacharya and his student K. Pattabhi Jois.
Ashtanga Yoga has its roots in the ancient texts of Indian philosophy, but stands out for its modern and practical approach, where breath and movement become one. The practice is intense, meditative, and deeply rejuvenating: every movement is led by the breath, turning the physical sequence into a moving meditation.

The Foundations of Vinyasa: Breath, Posture, Focus
A central element of Ashtanga Yoga is the concept of vinyasa—the synchronisation of breath and movement. Vinyasa integrates three key aspects:
- Asana: the physical postures that make the body stronger, more flexible, and more resilient. The sequences are predefined and learnt progressively, starting from the primary series.
- Breath (pranayama): breath control generates internal heat, stimulates purification, and activates vital energy (prana).
- Drishti: focusing the gaze on specific points of the body enhances concentration and introspection, turning each posture into a moment of mindful presence.
This combination of elements makes Dynamic Yoga not only a complete physical activity, but also a powerful tool for personal growth.
The Mysore Style Method: An Individual Journey with Group Support
At the 4Movimento Dance School in Sarzana, Ashtanga Yoga is taught following the traditional Mysore Style method. In this approach, each practitioner follows their own sequence, at their own pace and according to their own abilities. The teacher guides, corrects, and supports without interrupting the flow of the individual practice.
Mysore Style is ideal for both beginners, who are starting to become familiar with the initial postures, and advanced students who wish to deepen their physical and inner experience. This method allows for the development of a personal, authentic, independent, and conscious practice, respecting each individual's rhythm.
